Khiem Nguyen is a woodworker and designer and with his fiancé Amanda, runs A&K Woodworking and Design hand-making furniture and other handmade goods from Austin, TX. Khiem’s background is in woodworking and photography, now creating midcentury modern-inspired pieces of art.

What inspires you to keep making things?
"My curiosity to learn new things. I think one of the biggest things that attracted me to woodworking is the joinery. I love looking at an object and trying to figure out how each piece was cut and assembled and in what order."
What one piece of advice would you give to other makers?
"...don't be afraid of failure! Take risks and enjoy trying new things. If something doesn't work the first time, try it again! Problem solving is definitely a key element in making so the more problems you can work out the better you become at it!"
