"I’m inspired by utility most of the time – that is typically the spark. I can create and problem solve best when there’s a need to be fulfilled. This works great in the bag/accessory world. If I need to carry these X things, how would I do that effectively? After the established problem, I let the inspiration flow in... by taking a walk, listening to records, flipping through my library, talking to friends, eating a good meal, or any combination of those things.
If I’m in the workshop, maybe it’s just about grabbing some canvas and getting on a sewing machine and using that as a ‘sketch’ session."
"Only one, huh? I’ve done so many things wrong or not-quite-right over there years! If I had to choose one piece of advice, it’s try to stay as lean and scrappy as when you started.
Don’t over-estimate your growth projections... stay lean until you are forced to take the next move up. By working lean all the way up, you’ll have a greater sling-shot effect when you do get that wider audience."
The aesthetic and design behind the Wood&Faulk products reminds me of Scandinavian design or mid century modern pieces, but translated into things like bags, wallets, and so much more.
