I'm a Maker Because...

Kelsey Brannan interview

What inspires you to keep making things?

"As a video creator and "teacher" of video on YouTube, I'm inspired by how much there is to learn everyday. I see a cool effect on TV and I'm like, hmm, I wonder how they did that? That's when I dive into "testing" and then decide whether or not it's worth to share that video technique with my channel.

The responses to my content online are so positive. Aspiring creators, who may not have the means to go get a full education in video production, are able to watch and create on their own content.

In turn, I'm then inspired that they are now empowered to better tell their story in this world. It's a constant cycle of creativity and empowerment, and this cycle is what inspires me to continue to do what I do. I couldn't ask for a better job."

What one piece of advice would you give to other designers and video creators?

"If you have competition, that's means you are in the right field. So keep at it. Try new video styles and approaches in the beginning. For the content that does best, continue to make it and stop doing the ones that flop.

If you're making videos on YouTube, listen to your online community and involve them in you video production process! I run polls on the community page of my channel all the time and they help shape my content!"

Kelsey has been creating videos and motion graphics for over 10 years, previously holding a position working for the U.S. Department of State. Now Kelsey is making full-time on her own and putting together amazing content for other designers and video content creators.
