I'm a Maker Because...

Chris Coyier interview

What inspires you to keep making things?

"I'd echo what I hear a lot of people say in that I simply rather enjoy making things. Something about computers, and particularly websites, really clicks well with me and it remains just as satisfying to build things on the web today as it was when I was just starting out.

Of course, there is a business and career angle here too though. I like building things that have an entrepreneurial tilt to them. That's part of the fun. I'd love to do better financially and that's inspiration in and of itself."

What one piece of advice would you give to other makers?

"I'd say that you're lucky. The most interesting people I know that seem to lead the most fulfilling, long, and interesting lives are those people who do interesting things, make interesting things, and generally just engage with life at a level deeper than just skating by or watching."

As noted above, Chris has been very active in the design, development, and overall web tech industry for years. Originally from the midwest U.S., this maker is now calling Oregon home. Chris is a family man, new father, is actively focusing on fitness, and much more.

I’d be remiss if I did not take the time to write: thank you, Chris. I know that I, along with so many other web designers and developers, have been influenced by and have learned from your work. Keep on making things, man!
